Turkmen v. Ashcroft is one of three cases filed by persons who were arrested and detained
after 9/11/01. Turkmen was brought by eight men who were picked up for violating
Immigration Laws by having entered the United States illegally, stayed illegally or worked
illegally. They claim that while in detention prior to their deportation, their constitutional
or federal rights were violated and that they had also been physically abused or maltreated.
The Plaintiffs are represented by the Center for Constitutional R1ghts in New York City.
Here is the link to their web site. CCR The easiest way to find what they are saying about
the case is to type "Turkmen" in the search box. Take a look at what CCR is doing and has
done. You'll find it interesting. Of course, in the Turkmen case, I expect my client will
prevail.
On June 14, 2006: The District Court, per Hon. John Gleeson, U.S.D.J., issued a Decision
granting in part and denying in part motions previously filed by several Defendants, including
the United States, to dismiss various claims alleged.
Dismissal Decision of June 14, 2006
Plaintiffs' depositions have been taken except for Jaffee who has decided to drop his case.
Plaintiffs have been taking depositions for more than a year now and are expected to continue
to do so through the end of 2007, and possibly longer.
Defendant Stuart Pray is pursuing individual discovery from both the Plaintiffs and the
Government. We expect to initiate taking depositions during 2008.
